How To Approach an Ultra or Ironman

Jordan Rapp quote sums it up!

This Jordan Rapp quote sums it up.
"It's about the process. It doesn't matter what you do tomorrow and it doesn't matter what you did yesterday. It's about today, and making today count. That's especially true in training, but it's the same mentality that I carry into racing. Focus on the task at hand, not on the finish line, or the next part of the race, but what it is that is right there in front of you in the moment."

Happy Father's Day! Highway 61 Revisited

Highway 61 Revisited

Oh God said to Abraham, “Kill me a son”
Abe says, “Man, you must be puttin’ me on”
God say, “No.” Abe say, “What?”
God say, “You can do what you want Abe, but
The next time you see me comin’ you better run”
Well Abe says, “Where do you want this killin’ done?”
God says, “Out on Highway 61”

The family decided that for Father's Day they would take me out to Highway 61 for dinner. Not the actual highway, but to a restaurant named after the famous Bob Dylan Album. Highway 61 is always rated as one of the top  Southern BBQ joints in Toronto. It took the spot over from Cluck, Grunt and Low , which was an absolute disaster of a BBQ joint.
We had to celebrate Fasha's Day on Saturday, as I was working a 24 hour shift on Sunday.
Right on Bayview Avenue, just a short walk for us.
Fasha's Day on Saturday for me!
A fine looking group!
Portage and The Boy  trying to decide what to order.
I've never eaten Poutine out of anything but a chip-truck box , and never without a wooden fork. This was unorthodox, but a good appetizer. The Boy and I split it.
No thought required. The usual.
The Boy, as seen through the bottom of an empty glass.
For dessert, The Mad Italian.
I'm going to have to watch my weight, especially now that I'm not running due to an achillies issue. I want to let it heal this time, so I'll rest it a few more days. No races scheduled for a while, so it's good timing. In 1988, I put on 10lbs. in a week while on holidays. I didn't even think that was possible.
So I had  a small Poutine for an opener, and burger and fries for dinner. Not very Paleo, but it was cheat day, which is an important part of the Caveman diet. I have had the BBQ ribs and chicken here before (9 out of 10), that's definitely what they do best. The burger was a disappointing 5/10, the fries and poutine were decent. The beer was good and cold.
Thanks for a great Father's Day, you kids make me proud!
I was 7 years old when this came out!

  1. That was the 2nd album I ever bought with my own money (the first was Bringin' it all Back Home). 7-years-old at the time (birthday money from Grandma), but the albums had been out two years by then. I need a new pick-up for my turntable, now...
