How To Approach an Ultra or Ironman

Jordan Rapp quote sums it up!

This Jordan Rapp quote sums it up.
"It's about the process. It doesn't matter what you do tomorrow and it doesn't matter what you did yesterday. It's about today, and making today count. That's especially true in training, but it's the same mentality that I carry into racing. Focus on the task at hand, not on the finish line, or the next part of the race, but what it is that is right there in front of you in the moment."

So How Was Your Summer?

Bye bye to Beaver Flats.

I just noticed it's been 2 months since my last post. DOH! So how was your summer?
My summer was pretty eventful as summers go, some good, some bad, some I'm still not sure about. I started off training too hard and got runner's knee.
Then, while I was laid up with my bum knee, I wrecked both rotator cuffs doing dead lifts with improper form.
Then I retired after close to 30 years in the salt mines.
Then we drove the kids to the East Coast and dropped them both off at University, becoming "Empty Nesters" for the first time.
Then we sold the house in Toronto.
Then we bought a house in British Columbia.
Now we are packing boxes and moving ourselves, all our stuff, and two turtles 5,000 km across the country at the end of this month.
Get out the wide angle lens, Digger is carrying a 30lb. front pack.

Certainly all things that are pretty high on the stress scale.
I'm not normally much of a worrier, but lately it's not been unusual for me to wake up at 3-4 a.m. and wonder WTF did we do? Even though I know it will be great, we both have always loved Toronto and it's our comfort zone. But it didn't make sense to stay here in this big house with both kids away now full time at university. This is a very expensive house to maintain in a very expensive city to live in, and we need to cut costs now that neither of us are working. We have been visiting BC a lot, and we both love it. So we are going to give this a shot.
Oh yeah, I found out if I eat and drink the same amount (or even more than usual), and I don't run much, I can still pack on weight pretty quickly. Like 30 lbs since June. I am pretty em-bare-assed about my belly (as well as being a disgrace to the Paleo Diet, which I have fallen off), but a farewell run with the Pylons on Sunday has inspired me to get back at 'er.  What a great group of sicko's, Portage and I will miss you all.
Check out Dora's report and pitchers here.

Thank you Pylons for the great sendoff.
Until we meet again.
Hopefully at a run, not at someone's funeral!
Portage trying not to blink. Our last run in the Don Ravine?

Stay tuned for the "Very Turtley Adventures of Bruce and Filmore" as they travel across Canada in in the back of our jeep.
