How To Approach an Ultra or Ironman

Jordan Rapp quote sums it up!

This Jordan Rapp quote sums it up.
"It's about the process. It doesn't matter what you do tomorrow and it doesn't matter what you did yesterday. It's about today, and making today count. That's especially true in training, but it's the same mentality that I carry into racing. Focus on the task at hand, not on the finish line, or the next part of the race, but what it is that is right there in front of you in the moment."

From The East Coast To The West Coast

It seems like The Girl and me just got back from PEI, and Portage and I leave for Vancouver Island. The parents like the West Coast, the kids prefer the East Coast. Hmmmmm.
Anyhoo, here are some pictures of the first 2 days. We did Cathedral Grove, a stand of old growth ceders that MacMillion Bloedel left standing, and my father-in-law drove us up Mt. Arrowsmith, the tallest mountain on southern Vancouver Island at just under 6,000 ft.
The Rocky Mountains. Portage took this shot from the plane. No wonder races like Fat Dog have been canceled.Look at all the snow!

Flying over a log boom on Vancouver Island

Landed in Comox, those are Navy Aircraft behind me, Comox is an active Navel Base.

A train tressell in Cameron Lake, near Cathedral Grove.

Cameron Lake is in the interior of Vancouver Island.

Cathedral Grove

That's a lot of toothpicks.

Starting up Mt. Arrowsmith.

Port Alberni can be seen in the distance.

Port Alberni

Pretty steep, I wouldn't want to run this road.

We got within a thousand feet of the summit. There was a ski hill here, but the chalet burned down in the 1970's and they never rebuilt it.There are several trails to the top, Portage and I will have to put that on the bucket list.

Looking out at Lasqueti Island in the Salish Sea.Texada Island is in behind it.

They are still clear cutting on the Mountain.
Back down we go. Tomorrow, Portage and me will go running on the beach for a couple of hours.
