How To Approach an Ultra or Ironman

Jordan Rapp quote sums it up!

This Jordan Rapp quote sums it up.
"It's about the process. It doesn't matter what you do tomorrow and it doesn't matter what you did yesterday. It's about today, and making today count. That's especially true in training, but it's the same mentality that I carry into racing. Focus on the task at hand, not on the finish line, or the next part of the race, but what it is that is right there in front of you in the moment."

Captain Finds a Beauty--The North Country 50 Miler, Fremont Michigan, August 27th. My "Second" First 50 Miler.

Next Race- North Country 50 Miler

I know things could be worse. I'm losing 2 months of prime training time, but I know other runners who have lost a whole year and come back. It really is an injury you have to let heal, then start from scratch. It sure takes longer to heal when you're 53 y.o. than it did when you were 23. Doh. Hopefully I won't take too long to get back into shape once everything feels normal again.
When I do, my next race is probably going to be the NorthCountry 50 Miler in Michigan at the end of August. It's held in the Manistee National Forest. The nearest big town is Grand Rapids, but the little town (so we can check the weather) is Fremont, MI.
Fremont

Michigan is one of our favourite states, far more picturesque than you would think once you get through Detroit. There are fantastic beaches along the shores of Lake Michigan in North West part of the State, which is where this race is held.
This race has special appeal to us Pylons for 3 main reasons.
A) Age group awards for every 5 years? Check. 60+ for Swiss? Check. We Pylons are old and every one of us has a chance to podium (verb-to get on the podium!) if not many racers our age show up.
B) Easy Drive? Check.Seven hours. Perfectly good for a "Leave on Friday, home on Sunday" trip.
C) Good Schwag? Check.
All participants, by registering, will receive a short-sleeve moisture wicked race shirt, running hat with the race logo on it, the largest finisher medal in Michigan/3rd largest in the US, post race food all day for you and a guest, and a great overall event!
The 3rd biggest medal in the USA?  It's 5" in diameter and weighs almost 2 lbs.Yes, we are easily amused.
Almost 2 Lbs. 5" diameter and 6 mm thick.

Like Shit Through a Goose.Easy 7 Hour 12 Minute Drive

It's also really good timing with the R2R2R in late November.
So that's the goal race for me, unless something really changes. I suspect I also got whiplash when I fell across the log, my neck has been stiff for a few days. No Swiss, I did not get a Viagra stuck in my throat.
Sucks to get old, except when you're standing on that podium!
