How To Approach an Ultra or Ironman

Jordan Rapp quote sums it up!

This Jordan Rapp quote sums it up.
"It's about the process. It doesn't matter what you do tomorrow and it doesn't matter what you did yesterday. It's about today, and making today count. That's especially true in training, but it's the same mentality that I carry into racing. Focus on the task at hand, not on the finish line, or the next part of the race, but what it is that is right there in front of you in the moment."

The Pylons Go to Ohio-Day 1 and Day 2, The Anticipation (Part II)

So we got my cheap beer and lots of it, since we would be in the middle of Nowhere, Ohio, far from the nearest beer store if we ran out. Great selection, as usual.

Pork Slap Beer.....Comes in a Pylon Orange Can!

So Many Beers...........
Welcome to Burr Oak Lodge. Please Leave All Handguns at Home.
This is the cabin Swiss, Captain and I stayed in, about 100 yards from the starting line. That's frost on the roof and picnic table. Cyrus and Beaver had their own Cabin about a mile away. Doh.

Recovery Drinks. They would not survive.
Howdy, Neighbor. Not very sporting hunting Deer here, They are everywhere, like squirrels or raccoons. We could have shot three in the field beside the lodge on our first night.
One local lady told us they had a herd of 48 deer at their farm and needed hunters to thin them out.I took a few grizzly photos of gutted deer in the back of pick-up trucks, but I won't post them. It is bow hunting season here, so we kidded each other that at least you wouldn't hear it coming before it got you.

Lunch,Anyone? The Burrito Buggy in Athens.
We settled for Wild Wing in Athens. We watched the Wolverines in a wild game vs. Illinois that would take all day. 67-65 Michigan final, triple overtime!
Athens is home to the Ohio University Bobcats, not to be confused with the Ohio State Buckeyes.
Hunting Video Games!
So Captain buys us tickets for Saturday's  NCAA Men's Basketball game, Bobcats Vs. Walsh University( from Canton,Ohio) Bobcats won,78-64.Point Guard D.J. Cooper (From Chicago) was amazing for Ohio.DJ was so good, in fact, we wondered if he had signed with the University of Ohio by mistake, thinking it was actually  # 4 Ranked Ohio State he was signing with.....
Swiss snagged a T-Shirt from the T-Shirt Cannon, and the Mascot just had to visit him.
Go OIHO !
Pretty strange sight for us Canucks to see. Flu shots for sale in a grocery store.
After the game, we went back to the lodge to pick up our race kits. Swiss just about hit this Truck. How was he supposed to  see it? It was camouflaged!
Without a Doubt, The Coolest Waiter We Have Ever Met
What can I say about Gary, our waiter at the dining room in the lodge? This guy was absolutely hilarious, we will talk about him for years. He had a smoker's voice that sounded like "Old" Lucille Ball after she got her own show (when she worked for Harry at the bank), or maybe "Selma" from "Night Court". He lived for a while in Detroit, and is a huge Detroit Red Wings fan, we talked lots of hockey. He wanted to know who would win in a hockey fight, Tie Domi or Don Cherry in his prime. Big Steve Yzerman guy. He's also a Boxer, MMA Fighter, and was a 5K runner back in the day. Also a former "Platinum Member" gambler at Casino Windsor,  we can guess how that worked out.
So he moved back to Ohio from Detroit. We might have to go back to The Bobcat Marathon just to see him again. Great guy, salt of the earth.
Anyhow, that concludes my pre-race posts. That was our Friday and Saturday. We were all set in our cabins, surrounded by 50% runners and 50% hunters, hoping our bright orange Pylon colours would be enough to save us from getting shot at. Arrowed at?
Next Up, Showtime. Raceday. Sunday, Sunday, Sunday.
The Bobcat Marathon had a few surprises in store.
