How To Approach an Ultra or Ironman

Jordan Rapp quote sums it up!

This Jordan Rapp quote sums it up.
"It's about the process. It doesn't matter what you do tomorrow and it doesn't matter what you did yesterday. It's about today, and making today count. That's especially true in training, but it's the same mentality that I carry into racing. Focus on the task at hand, not on the finish line, or the next part of the race, but what it is that is right there in front of you in the moment."

I Am Apparently Excited About This Sunday

One of the things on my unofficial "Bucket List" is to represent Canada in an athletic competition.I was thinking it might be in a 24 hour hour running event, or something after I turned 55 years old.I am all about the ultra trail runs, but I also love a good triathlon.
There is a (slight, good , maybe possible?) possibility that I may qualify for the Ironman world championships this Sunday if I podium in the 50-54 catagory. I am trying to keep cool, but I have lists and planning and pacing running around in my head, and am surprizing myself at how competitive I seem to be.
The funny thing is, I have been swimming and bike training very well in my mind, but I have no idea how fast I've been going because I haven't been racing and don't have a speedometer on my bike. I'm not worried about the run, no matter what I do, I always seem to be around 1:45 for the half marathon.
If I can do under 5:20 for the half-Ironman, I will be happy. If I can go under 5:10, I will be very happy.
Otherwise, I wait until I'm 55 years old, and it becomes a war of attrition.

Cheers!

  2. Hi Brownie and Amy. It was fun, too bad about the rain, but at least it wasn't snow. Ames, I never thought of myself as inspiring anyone, I'm just doing what I love to do. Thanks for that.I can't wait until I retire so I can turn it up a notch. Two years and 3 months to go......
