How To Approach an Ultra or Ironman

Jordan Rapp quote sums it up!

This Jordan Rapp quote sums it up.
"It's about the process. It doesn't matter what you do tomorrow and it doesn't matter what you did yesterday. It's about today, and making today count. That's especially true in training, but it's the same mentality that I carry into racing. Focus on the task at hand, not on the finish line, or the next part of the race, but what it is that is right there in front of you in the moment."

My Cholesterol,My Gout, My ADD, and Ch,Ch,Ch,Ch, Ch, Changes

Got the results back from my recent full physical, and I am pleased. After putting my liver to the test after curling, I arrived at the doctor's office the next morning feeling pretty hungover and thinking I had possibly made a very bad mistake. If my blood tests were messed up, I was screwed. How many people would say "I told you so"?
So after 2 years of paleo eating, and hungover, my  blood test results were
SPECTACULAR.
Boring details, but basically, I'll live forever.

For those that care my levels are...
HDL-(Good Cholesterol) Target is greater than 1.29
Mine is 2.44
LDL-(Bad Cholesterol) Target is less than 3.4
Mine is 3.06
The CHOL/HDL Ratio they want is less than 4.11
Mine is 2.36

My only problem is my uric acid level. 4.97. I have suffered from gout (it's hereditary, thanks, mom) since I was 26 years old, and have been popping NSAID's when I felt an attack coming on. My GP advised me today that it is NOT GOOD to suffer acute bouts of gout, (causes arthritis in later life) it's better to take allo purinol every day and never have another attack . No side effects. Done.
So we come to my ADD.
Where was I? Oh yeah. Changes in my schedule. We have the 50k in Pennsylvania coming up, then the next weekend, the 50 miler. I've never done a 50 miler, probably not a good idea to do it the week after a 50K, but who cares? If I fail, I fail. It's a very easy course to quit, a triple loop, so lets see what I'm made of. I have no idea. How can I do 100 miles if I can't do 50 miles?
Oh , right, we have made the following changes, had them seconded and voted in favour of.
1st)-Instead of going for  a 10K PB, Digger will pace Portage to a sub 1 hour 10k at the Sporting Life 10k . It will be her first sub 60 minute 10K. She is running very well lately.

2nd) R2R2R shall be on the 29th of November.

3rd) Did someone say the Las Vegas Marathon on December 4th? The Fat Ass Pylons will be running it in 2011 5 days after the R2R2R. I'll be going for sub 3:40 and a Boston Qualifier. Piece of cake. It's running down "The Strip" at night!

Long Run!
This is what it sounds like, when the mud flies. Finally, no snow or ice in the ravine.Just mud.
Please please please please please please please
Funny how it all comes back to evolution. I think the dogs with the biggest saddest big brown  "I'm Starving" eyes won out over the "Feed me if you want , I really Don't Care" dogs.
Where was I? Oh yeah, a couple of major things. I really didn't want to mention it but, I have been approached by a couple of people to write some guest articles, as well as do an interview with a very popular "Trail Runner˚ magazine that I'm not going to mention the name of just in case it doesn't work out. Pretty amazing, it's the power of the blog! Also, I'll update the 2011 races asap.

  1. The last two years, I've almost pulled the trigger on the Vegas marathon. Maybe this will be the year. We'd definitely have a PBR/Old Milwaukee summit!
